Woodfin Hotel Picket Line

On Tuesday March 6, 2007 Urban Habitat sponsored a picket line in solidarity with the workers of the Woodfin Suites Hotel in Emeryville.
In 2006, the housekeepers at the Woodfin Suites demanded their rights under Emeryville's living wage ordinance - Measure C but were met with intimidation and mass firings of worker leaders, putting the Woodfin at the local center of the national immigrant rights movement. Because supporters walked the picket line, called city council, and sent donations, the workers are temporarily back at work! However, the workers continue to face harassment and disrespect on the job, and are owed over $160,000 in back pay. Urban Habitat, the Quality Jobs Working Group, East Bay for A Sustainable Economy (EBASE) and other labor organizations came together to show solidarity with the workers.
