No on Prop 98, Yes on Prop 99

Urban Habitat has taken a formal position opposing the dangerous Proposition 98 and supporting Proposition 99.

On the June 2008 ballot, there are two competing initiatives.

Propositions 98 eliminates Rent Control and dangerously limits the ability of government to enforce Environmental Regulations and Public Works, masked as Eminent Domain reform. No on Prop 98 Yes on Prop 99

Proposition 99 limits the governments ability to use eminent domain to take owner-occupied homes for private use.

Urban Habitat will be helping to reach out to voters in the flatlands of Oakland in order to defeat this dangerous proposal by working with Oakland Rising, a new formation of Oakland-based social justice organizations.

The deceptive & misguided Proposition 98 threatens that vision, and we're organizing to fight it locally! Join us as we engage a distinct group of Oakland voters: renters and low income communities of color in the city's flatlands.

May 10: Launch & Precinct Mobilization - Join us for a powerful movement building event to launch Oakland Rising, learn the real deal about Proposition 98, and get trained to mobilize the progressive vote - lunch included.

May 24 & 31: Precinct Mobilizations - Training and precinct walks - lunch included.

June 3: Election Day Activities - Reach out to voters on Election Day to stop Proposition 98! We need support on phone banking, walking precincts, and poll checking.

Can't make those dates? Want some more action? Our partners are doing other powerful work throughout April, May, and June. Contact Marc or Connie of the Bay Area Social Equity Caucus.

Oakland Rising partners include: the Asian Pacific Environmental Network, the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy, the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Just Cause Oakland, Oakland ACORN, and Urban Habitat.

If you need to register to vote, an absentee ballot need to find your polling place or any other help with Voting, contact your County's Supervisor of Elections using this map.
