"A deeper look into the crisis reveals that the subprime lending debacle has caused the greatest loss of wealth to people of color in modern US history... The subprime crisis has pulled a large chunk of wealth away from many, many middle-and lower-income people, in the form of homes and home equity--a primary, even sole, asset for those without great wealth."--from the report Foreclosed: State of the Dream 2008 by United for a Fair Economy
In Class #2 we will learn about and discuss:
- What's up with the current economic crisis and its impact on people's jobs and housing?
- How did the sub-prime lending and foreclosure crisis happen? Who is to blame?
- In the Bay Area and around the country, who's losing their homes and where? How are both homeowners and renters affected?
- What is the impact on affordable housing for low-income and working people and communities of color?
- What are the community responses to the subprime lending crisis?
