Ditching Dirty Diesl Anti-Idling Day of Action
Diesel truck and bus idling causes health problems, wastes money, and is bad for the environment. The Ditching Dirty Diesel Collaborative aims to convey that message to drivers on its Tuesday, June 24 Anti-Idling Day of Action. Residents and community organizations in Oakland, Richmond, San Leandro, and Bayview Hunters Point will be taking to their neighborhood streets to hand-deliver information to truck drivers. They are driving home the message that diesel-engine idling for over five minutes is illegal, wasteful, and bad for everyone’s health, especially children and the elderly.
In Bayview Hunters Point, volunteers will
be at the intersection of 3rd
Street and Jamestown Avenue in San Francisco to pass out door hangers to
trucks as they exit US 101. They will place door hangers on trucks in the
industrial area bordered by 3rd
Street, Underwood, Carroll, and the Bay. For more
information, contact Karen Pierce
at 415.581.2459.
In West Oakland, volunteers will be
distributing information to truck drivers at the Mayway Warehouse truck parking
facility on 12th Street
at Mandela Parkway,
at the OMSS truck scales on Maritime
Blvd., and by the recycling centers in the Clawson neighborhood. For
more information, contact Brian Beveridge at 510.282.2565 or Margaret Gordon at
510.393.2019.
In San Leandro, gather
at the Davis Street Family
Resource Center
at 3081 Teagarden Street
to outreach to truckers in this heavily trafficked area. For more information,
contact Wafaa Aborashed at 510.410.9232 or 510.347.4620.
In North Richmond,
Ditching Dirty Diesel will also be at work. For more details on activities and
locations, contact Cedrita
Claiborne at 925.313.6861.
