class description:
silkscreen poster-making is an eight-week workshop sponsored by the sf print collective. classes take place at centro del pueblo and balazo gallery. the workshop covers basics of guerrilla art, graphic design, silkscreen printing, and wheatpasting. students will develop photoshop and screenprinting skills including film prep, working with emulsion, burning screens and printing on paper. as a primer for public artists, the class will also include tips for getting your work up and defending your rights against the police.

each class will meet for three hours combining presentations and hands-on art making. we will start with a history of political posters including work from local and international movements such as the black panthers, the 1968 paris strike, actup, cuba's ospaaal, and others. students will then design their own posters and learn how to print them. participants are encouraged to make posters that are relevant to existing organizing campaigns and to work with local community-based organizations. by the end of the class, you should expect to walk away with at least one batch of posters and the skills to run your own street level publicity campaign.

founded in 2000, the sf print collective is a printmaking collective that uses graphic art to support social justice organizing. we make posters, murals, banners and billboards to reclaim public space and promote bay area activism.
