Why:
We stand at a crossroads in the history of our communities and country. Our families and neighborhoods have been devastated by the reckless greed of the most powerful bank and Wall Street executives in the country. We are forging a broad-based alliance of faith, labor and community organizations to unite to HOLD BANKS ACCOUNTABLE. Create the will to bring SWEEPING FINANCIAL REFORM. We must build a new economy that values working families and communities.
Background:
California families -- homeowners and tenants -- are being evicted from their homes in the hundreds of thousands. Counselors can't get mortgage servicers and banks to listen and solve problems to keep people in their homes. CRC has met with mortgage servicers and banks in many settings to try to facilitate loan modifications with little or no result. Those meetings will continue but CRC has also joined with the PICO Network, particularly the Contra Costa group (CCISCO), and other CRC members and community allies to bring their congregations and members to public meetings. We did this June 11 in Richmond with the Federal Reserve, with BofA in Antioch on January 12 and at the LA City Council on February 23.
Now, we are all focusing on the four big banks that are mortgage servicers (BofA, Wells Fargo, Citi, and Chase) to get them to make their loan modifications work for our neighborhoods. Wells Fargo and Bank of America are holding their annual shareholder meetings on April 27 and 28 respectively. Since Wells is headquartered in San Francisco (not Charlotte), we are focusing on that shareholder meeting.
Join us as we march to the Wells Fargo Annual Shareholder Meeting to demand action on our proposals to create jobs; keep families in their homes; rebuild our neighborhoods; stop predatory lending and reclaim our democracy!
PLEASE RSVP to 415-864-3980 or liana(at)calreinvest(dot)org .
