Campaign Goals

Regional equitable development serves as an alternative to current planning and development practices that often result in displacement and inequalit. Equitable development at the city level means that growth and change provides beneficial outcomes and opportunities for all residents.

The vision of equitable development for Richmond is a community in which every resident has access to affordable housing; reliable public transit that connects to family-supporting jobs; quality educational opportunitites; a clean environment; and accessible community amenities from open space, to health care, to grocery stores. Finally, residents also must have a real voice in shaping the policies that will help accomplish these goals.

To incorporate equitable development principles into the General Plan, the REDI collaborative will:

  • Develop and support concrete policy recommendations and strategies to advance an equitable development agenda

  • Develop and support community stakeholders who will play a lead role in influencing the general plan and moving an equitable development agenda. Trainings will use popular education methodology to reach out to our partner community based organizations.

  • Develop and support City leaders to increase their commitment to our equitable development agenda and policy recommendations through trainings that showcase best practices, suggest equitable development language, and allow opportunity for community member testimonies
