More News
Greetings Bay Area SEC members & friends:

As always, we look forward to seeing you Friday, March 21, for the first 2008 Bay Area SEC Quarterly meeting.

AGENDA

Budgeting for Social Equity
The California Tax Reform Association and Next 10's California Budget Challenge will lead us in an exercise using interactive technology to set our coalition's budget priorities and identify the most effective ways we can promote long-term statewide tax reform.

Building a Movement
We will also be starting the first in a series of movement-building activities designed in collaboration with the Movement Strategy Center to help frame our coalition's work in a regional movement-building context.  You won't want to miss out on this opportunity to learn with your colleagues and friends!

Please let us know how many in your group will be joining us next Friday so we may provide refreshments (by popular demand, now served on biodegradable materials). You may send your response to: rsvp@urbanhabitat.org.

As a pre-cursor, we present an update on many of our member & ally organizations. So come prepared to share some exciting news about your organization.

In Solidarity,

Juliet Ellis, Executive Director
Connie Galambos Malloy, SEC Coordinator
Marc Caswell, SEC Associate

Dream Reborn Conference:
Celebrating the Green Economy

Green For All (a national nonprofit organization recently founded by Van Jones, formerly of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights) is bringing organizations and leaders from communities across the nation together for "The Dream Reborn" conference in Memphis, April 4-6.  The Dream Reborn: Memphis April 4-6Green for All has a simple but ambitious mission: to help build a green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.

On the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, this historic event will celebrate his extraordinary life and present positive solutions from today's generation of visionary leaders.  Co-sponsors and featured presenters include Urban Habitat.  Read more.

March for Good Jobs and Clean Air at Oakland Port

Truck Driver Holding Sign
Let the port know you want a strong Clean Trucks Program!  March from Oakland City Hall to the Oakland Port and help end the "sweatshop on wheels" system.  Next week, Port Commissioners will vote on the first step towards instituting a Port Trucking Policy.

This is a critical vote and we need to send a strong message to the Port to adopt a Comprehensive Clean Trucks Program that meets our community's needs. Meet at City Hall on March 17th at 4:30.  Read more...
