After an amazing turnout at a Tuesday morning rally, the Oakland City Council Public Works Committee voted to provide a full $250,000 in seed funding for the Oakland Green Jobs Corps!  Over 150 people attended the rally, and speakers included:

    * Sharon Cornu, head of the Alameda County Central Labor Council
    * City Councilmember Nancy Nadel
    * Victor Ochoa, Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Dellums, who has endorsed the Green Jobs Corps
    * and Connie Galambos of Urban Habitat, who unveiled the groundbreaking "Community Jobs in the Green Economy" report.

Plus, superstar poet/activist/artist Aya de Leon read a hilarious and touching and powerful poem as the perfect opening to the event, followed by a rousing keynote from Ella Baker Center President Van Jones.  After the rally, a crowd packed the Public Works Committee, leading it to unanimously support the initiative.  At the final vote at Oakland City Council on June 19, the full $250,000 in seed funding for the Oakland Green Jobs Corp was approved.  Click here for more details for the report!
