Feb. 8: Environmental Management and Technology Course

The David R. Brower-Ronald V. Dellums Institute for Sustainable Policy Studies at Merritt College will be releasing three decades of psycho-social research about why our species does not take care of itself and the environment. The course, entitled Civilization and the Environment: The Psychology of Trashing the Earth (ENVMT 019), is part of Merritt College’s Environmental Management and Technology Program. It begins on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 6:30pm and is open to the general public.

The Institute’s Co-Director, Robin Freeman, and guest lecturers will explore connections between human psychosocial development, shared public narratives, the creation of social and environmental problems and some of the surprising solutions suggested by looking at the root causes of self-destructive behavior at the specie level. Local environmental justice efforts and other solutions will be used as case histories. Urban Habitat’s Founder, Carl Anthony, is a Senior Advisor to the Institute for Sustainable Policy Studies.
