Call To Action, Re-Fund Transit, Make Banks Pay!
For the past five years, working people in the Bay Area have faced brutal cuts to vital services. Bus riders have been hit especially hard, some losing more than 15% of their transit service. This means longer waits, higher costs, and missed appointments.Banks Must Pay
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Banks that wrecked our economy continue to overcharge our public agencies—the Metropolitan Transportation Committee (MTC), for one— millions of dollars on bad loan deals.
What You Can Do
On Feb. 20th through 24th, join bus riders, ACCE, Urban Habitat, and our allies in the Transportation Justice Working Group, as well as the 6 Wins For Social Equity, for a Week of Actions, to demand that banks renegotiate interest-rate swap agreements.
$50 Million For Transit, Not Profits
During the week, we will also be asking MTC to work with bus rideraqs to get the swaps dropped and then use those funds to restore our lost
transit service. MTC currently overpays the banks $53 million per year. Public funding should be going toward the public good, not corporate profits!
Here’s the Plan
• Monday, Feb. 20: We’ll take the message to other bus riders with teach-ins on buses and a More Transit = Clean Air event at one of the
busiest bus stops in the Bay Area.
• Tuesday, Feb. 21: We’ll take the message to the banks in the San Francisco financial district and demand that they Drop the Swaps and
Re-Fund Transit.
• Wednesday, Feb. 22: We’ll take this message to the MTC and ask them to pass a resolution to Make Banks Pay to Re-Fund Transit.
• Thursday, Feb. 23: We’ll conclude with the Re-Fund Transit March to the banks and MTC.
