Freeway improvements tied to car-fee increase



More on-ramp metering lights and roving tow trucks would come to Bay Area freeways under a proposal to raise vehicle-registration fees by a buck.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission is expected to vote this week on whether to support a legislative effort to raise vehicle-license fees by $1 in the nine Bay Area counties to pay for the improvements, which also include installing more traffic-monitoring devices.

Muni Officials Consider Congestion Pricing, Fare Hike

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom isn't ready to embrace a Muni task force recommendation that would raise fares, in order to improve service.

”Riders don’t want to see a Muni increase, and I don’t either,” said Newsom. “It’s not the first place we’re going to go, and it’s not inevitable.”
